Only a scenic hour’s drive from Yellowstone Park’s west entrance and the area’s blue ribbon trout streams, Elk Lake Resort is uniquely positioned in a remote location. Operating under a special use permit through the U.S.F.S. on the Beaverhead Deerlodge National Forest, Elk Lake Resort is situated in an area where God’s handiwork is evident in wildlife as well as in wild flowers. It wasn’t so long ago that Indians, trappers, prospectors, and outlaws shared this country. Although now ‘reasonably’ tame and civilized, the flavor of the old west is easily brought back to life with a visit to Elk Lake Resort. While originally homesteaded in 1876, our historic roots go back to the days when Indians set up their own camps in our secluded cove.

Sit outside your private cabin in summer as a rose-gold sunset relinquishes to a rising full moon. Under the majesty of purple mountains, you may hear an unrehearsed orchestra - Sandhill cranes, duck species, wetland dependent neo-tropical migrants, and maybe even a trumpeter swan - cascading onto your eardrums. No gadgets or gimmicks will mar our 100% natural prescription to soothe and satisfy our most world-weary guest.
Because of the Resort’s secluded location, we operate self sufficient. In keeping with the historic ambiance, although available in the main lodge, there are no televisions or telephones in the rooms to interrupt your enjoyment of our unrivaled brand of peace, quiet, and relaxation.
