Henry's Lake sits in a wide, grassy basin ringed by mountains at the north end of Island Park, close to the Montana line. It is named for the fur trader Andrew Henry.
The lake is highly respected among anglers: Idaho Fish and Game calls it world-famous for its trophy trout. The season runs from the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend through January 1, and Henry's Lake State Park on the south shore has a campground and boat launch.
The Nez Perce and the U.S. Army both passed through this basin in 1877, and Gilman Sawtell, Island Park's first homesteader, settled near its shore. A dirt road loops around the lake for a lovely, quiet drive.
