Yellowstone

The park's highlights most within reach from Island Park and the West Entrance.

Planning a park day

Pick two major stops, start early, expect delays from wildlife and traffic, and take breaks. Yellowstone days are better when they are not rushed.

The West Entrance is your door into the park. Old Faithful, Grand Prismatic Spring and the geyser basins along the Firehole River make an easy first day; the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and Yellowstone Lake are a longer, full-day trip. See Driving & Timing in Yellowstone for how to plan the day.
